Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th 1964) was an American lawyer, politician and vice president of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and is also the most powerful female officer in American history. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she was the United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After establishing her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General of California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for reforms to healthcare, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. She is well-known for the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
